Supreme Court?

How can we save our Democracy from the corporations?

The Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United v. the F.E.C. is a death blow to Democracy as we know it. The court has already found that the 14th amendment grants corporation personhood. Now laws prohibiting corporations from using money from their general fund for political speech is expanding on of the last holds we had between our system and facism. There will be nothing to stop Mobile from spending a $100 million dollars on television commercials endorsing candidates who do not believe in climate change.

If corporations are people, will they go to jail when their product kills someone? If money equals speech, do those with the most money get to speak more and have their voices be louder?

Progressive Democrats of America

PDA is a great organization that works within the Democratic Party to transform the party. We have a new chapter in Polk County (Congressional District 12).

What it means to be a Liberal

“The people don’t want a phony Democrat. If it’s a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don’t want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.” — President Harry Truman – May 17, 1952

Thom Hartmann read this quote on his radio show today. In light of the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts, it is most pertinent. The Democratic party with their "Third Way" and Blue Dogs, no longer represent actual Democrats. They have tried to outdo the Republicans with their trickle down economics and taking care of the banksters first. They have lost the one thing Corporation's are unable to give political parties in this country, votes.

People are hurting. If the Democrats would enact actual change, they would win every election.

Liberals believe:

1. Equal rights for all people regardless of race, sex, religion, disability, or sexual preference. That means that we cannot kick people out of the military because they are gay and that same sex couples should be able to get married.

2. Cut the military budget and close many over sea's bases. Troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq withing in a year.

3. No torture under any circumstances and following the Geneva Convention for any POW.

4. Universal single-payer health care.

5. Employee Free Choice Act and supporting labor.

6. No more free trade and pulling out of the WTO.

7. Strict environmental legislation and cutting our addiction to fossil fuels. Government funding for green projects and alternative energy research.

I hope the administration gets the message that governing from the right, is not what democratic voters want.
